The style is vintage "Rivière", a fully beaded design, usually featuring one kind of gemstone. A very classy, understated style, my Rivière typically will be about 18" with a a lobster clasp and 2" extension. I like to use gem beads with character, like Fancy Jasper (pictured), Ocean Jasper, Polychrome Jasper, Chinese Jade, Mookaite, Dalmation, Unakite, Crazy Lace Agate, Tiger Eye. However, classics like Amethyst, Lapis, Citrine, Aventurine, Obsidian, and of course Freshwater Pearl, are beautiful as well. Most of my Rivière necklaces are in the lower end of the price range, but some choices (like pearls) push into the upper end.
