Autumn On Foster Road

A crisp day in late September was perfect for a country drive with friends.

Sharing a friendship that has developed to more of a kinship over the years, the conversation was as lively and varied as the colorful countryside. The day was flying by as we enjoyed every turn in the road.

This year autumn came quickly to the middle Appalachians. It seems as if overnight the dark, subtle greens of late summer gave way to flamboyant fall foliage as the hillsides urgently donned their coat of brilliant colors.

Knowing that we are always on the lookout for special photo opportunities, Earle reminded Ron more than once that on the way home we had to see some trees that had been displaying, vibrant colors just a day or two earlier. He was certain those trees would make the perfect fall photo to add to our website.

Heading home, excitement that grew as we rounded a curve and neared “the spot”, suddenly turned into a disappointed (expletive) as Earle’s spectacular trees appeared to have faded to rust. Mutually unimpressed, we stopped for some photos anyway because there is no such thing as common, ordinary nature, and there was something appealing in that scene.

Autumn in the Appalachians. A little slice of heaven on earth where splashes of yellow and orange and crimson and gold woven into evergreen hillsides delight the senses.

It was a special day with special friends, and as a bonus autumn on Foster Road turned out to be every bit as vibrant as we had all expected. Sometimes it just takes a little coaxing to bring out a colorful personality hiding just beneath the surface.
